William Dean Clanton, 83, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Medicalodges in Independence, Kansas.
Viewing and family visitation will be held Friday, March 2nd from 6:00-8:00 pm at Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 3rd at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the family has suggested memorials to the church in lieu of flowers. Contributions may be left at the Loran Fawcett Chapel.
William Dean Clanton was born November 5, 1934 in Neodesha, Kansas to William M. and Wintress (Miller) Clanton. He attended and graduated from Neodesha High School in 1952. He later went to Coffeyville Junior College. He married Elizabeth Roberts and they were later divorced. He began working for the Standard Oil Company in 1954. When the Neodesha refinery closed, he transferred to the Whiting, Indiana refinery and resided in Highland, IN. He later transferred to Chicago, IL working in Amoco's petroleum measurement group until he retired in 2002 with 39 years of service.
He was an active member of the Metro club and the Masonic Lodge when he originally lived in Neodesha and later, the Rotary Club, after retiring and returning to Neodesha. Bill loved hunting, golfing and fishing. He especially loved his fishing trips to the Flint Hills area of Kansas. After a severe stroke in 2006 he picked up the hobby of working on complex jigsaw puzzles.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Clanton. Survivors include his son, Mark Clanton and granddaughter, Samantha of Glen Ellen, IL; his sister, Sandy Kingston and her husband, Ken of Neodesha; a sister in-law, Phyllis Clanton of Manhattan, KS; ten nieces and nephews and many great nieces.
