Walter Wiersma

Walter Ned Wiersma, 72 of Neodesha, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Neodesha. Cremation has taken place under the direction of PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Walter was born September 23, 1938 in Downs, KS to Martin amp Mabel Hull Wiersma. He attended schools in Downs, KS, graduating in 1956. He attended KState University in Manhattan, KS before serving in the National Guard from 1959 until 1965 and in the U.S. Army. He then worked in retail and did landscaping work. He was Past Nobel Grand of the Oddfellow Lodge of Manhattan, KS and also a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Neodesha. He married Mary Atchinson in 1960 and they later divorced. He then married Velma Branson in June of 1983 in Coffeyville, KS she preceded him in death on February 15, 2008. Survivors are daughter Cindy Crocker of Neodesha, son Randy Carr of Missouri, four sisters Janice Bowman of North Bend, OR. Donna Stadler of San Jose, Ca, Helen Seaman and Marlene Heyer of Downs, KS, three brothers Lloyd Wiersma of Wamego, KS, Ray Wiersma of Hill City, KS and Lee Wiersma of Paola, KS four grandchildren and one greatgranddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
