VERNA MAE EDINGTON Verna Mae Edington, 62, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2005 at the Wilson County Hospital, Neodesha, Kansas. Verna Mae was born June 21, 1943 in Independence, Kansas to Cecil W. and Hazel M. Gallup Botts. She was raised and attended Independence schools. Verna married Wiley C. Edington in 1967 in Miami, Oklahoma. Mr. Edington was a welder and the family traveled in various states due to his job. He preceded Verna in death on October 26, 2004. She worked at various factories in the Neodesha and Independence area. Verna worked at Neodesha Plastics for the last 15 years. She loved to cook and enjoyed her grandchildren. Verna also bowled for numerous years here in Neodesha. She has been a member of American legion Auxiliary Unit 139, Independence, Kansas for 16 Years Verna is survived by her mother, Hazel Schafer of Independence, Kansas; one daughter, Martha Cooper and her husband, Tom of Neodesha; three sons, Rick Edington of Kettle River, Minnesota, Robert Black of the U.S. Army and Timothy Black of Madison, Wisconsin; five brothers, Sonny Johnson of Independence, Kansas, John Botts, Jim Botts, Ronnie Botts and David Botts all of Neodesha, Kansas; four sister, Margo Rinkenberger of Dennis, Kansas, Sherry Turner and Linda Schafer both of Independence, Kansas, and Glenda Persinger of Sedan, Kansas; and six grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her father. Visitation hours for Verna will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel of Neodesha. Funeral services for Verna Mae Edington will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2005 at the First United Methodist Church of Neodesha, Kansas with Pastor Jim Logan of the Grace Baptist Church and Pastor Kris Brinlee of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Wilson County Hospital Foundation. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
