Twyla Joy Forslund, 75, of Neodesha, Kansas, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019 at her home. She was surrounded by her family and friends.
Twyla was born on December 29, 1943 in Joplin, Mo. to Luther Oren and Dolly Ruth Bennett. She grew up in Seneca, Mo. where her parents owned Spring Valley Dairy.
She graduated from Seneca High School in 1961. She attended Business College in Joplin and then college in Springfield as a music/vocal major. She played piano, guitar, French horn, and sang opera. She sang for President Kennedy while in a choir in college.
Twyla married Fred Z. Forslund on April 4, 1964 in Joplin, Mo. They made their home in Pittsburgh, Ks. for many years and is where their first child, Kathryn Rene' Forslund-Hines was born. The Forslund's then moved to Oswego, Ks. , Inependence,Ks., Chanute, Ks., where their son; Zack Allen Forslund was born. The Forslunds moved to Neodesha in 1975. She worked in various business administrative duties for many companies: SRS, Birdview Satellite, Intercept Inc., Manley Transfer to name a few.
Twyla's favorite hobby was playing bridge. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed all of her friends at bridge clubs in Neodesha and Independence. Her other hobbies included gardening, fishing, and watching movies. Twyla was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star for 52 years and a member of the Christian church. She always put her family first and foremost in her life and gave selflessly to them. She never knew a stranger and always had a smile to share and a hug to give.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Luther Oren and Dolly Ruth Bennett of Seneca, Mo., Brother; William George Bennett, Sisters; Mary Elizabeth Fort of Seneca, Mo., Ruth Anne Bennett of Seneca, Mo., and husband, Fred Z. Forslund of Neodesha, Ks.
She is survived by her sister; Phyllis Marlene Gillespie and husband Don of Carthage, Mo., Ronal Gene Bennett and wife Sandra of Seneca, Mo., her daughter; Kathryn Rene' Hines of Independence, Ks. , her son, Zack Allen Forslund and wife Lindsey of Neodesha, Ks. and three grandchildren; Bryson Hines, Corbin Hines, and Tayla Forslund.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at 2;30 pm at Christ Church 1001 Elm Street, Neodesha, Ks. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Christ Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Town Health and Hospice or Cancer treatment centers of America. Funeral arrangements have been made through Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha, Ks.
