SYLVIA ANN NEWBY Sylvia Ann Newby, 92, of Neodesha, Kansas passed away, Friday, October 28, 2005 at the Golden Keys Nursing Home, Neodesha, Kansas. Sylvia was born on December 14, 1912 in Neodesha, Kansas to Ira and Jessie DeLong Penn. She was raised in Neodesha and attended Neodesha schools where she graduated from Neodesha High School. Following her graduation, she attended nursing school in Neodesha at the hospital. She became a registered nurse and worked as a private nurse. On September 26, 1937, Sylvia married H. Bernard Newby in Neodesha, Kansas. They made their home in the Neodesha area where they farmed for fifty years. Mr. Newby preceded her in death on January 27, 1997. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Neodesha and was active in the Christian Church Womens Group. Sylvia was a past matron of the Eastern Star and was a member of the White Shrine and a Guardian for the Jobs Daughters. Sylvia is survived by two daughters, Ramona Newby of Overland Park, Kansas and Marjorie Watkins and her husband, Mike of Oakley, Kansas; one brother, Wayne Penn of Garnett, Kansas; two granddaughters, Leslie Watkins of Shawnee, Kansas and Jennifer Kleweno of Bazine, Kansas; and one great granddaughter, Samantha Kleweno of Bazine, Kansas. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Joel Penn, Ira June Penn, William Penn and Arthur Penn; sisters, Inez Newby, Evelyn Schwartz, Nettie Morgan, and Marylouise Lewis. Visitation hours for Sylvia will be held on Monday, October 31, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Funeral services for Sylvia Ann Newby will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 01, 2005 at the First Christian Church, Neodesha, Kansas with Pastor Jim Bell and Reverend Dave Cheshier officiating. Burial will follow at the Neodesha City Cemetery. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Golden Keys Nursing Home, Van Fund. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
