Susie Bedford

Susie Jane Gipson Bedford, 65, of Chanute, died from heart failure on June 27, 2014 at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Susie was born on October 1, 1948, in Lenna, Oklahoma to Billie Marie Dot Gipson. She grew up in the community of Fame, Oklahoma, and graduated from Stidham High School in 1966. She married Jimmie Eugene Bedford in 1967. They lived in the Eufaula area and had two children. After their divorce in 1978, Susie trained as an Emergency Medical Technician and later became the first female firefighter at the City of Coweta, Oklahoma. She touched many lives in the years she spent working on ambulances, as a first responder, and as a home health care provider.

Susie always was proud of her work, but the greatest joy in her life came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her son Randy Bedford of Coweta and daughterinlaw Shawna Bedford of Bixby daughter and soninlaw Paula and Russell Wells of Neodesha, KS grandchildren Preston Machado, Chelseajo Machado, Elizabeth Machado, Abigail Bedford, Kyle Bedford, Travis Wells, and Tyler Wells greatgranddaughter Farajo Machado mother Billie Marie Dot Britt sister Janet Tucker, sister and brotherinlaw Peggy and Rod Lusti, and brother Anthony Tucker and her beloved nieces and nephews. Susie was preceded in death by her exhusband Jimmie Bedford father, Don Tucker brother, William Tucker brotherinlaw, Jerry Tucker, and nephew, Stoney Tucker.

In accordance with her wishes, Susie will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Coweta Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma under the direction of Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha, Kansas. Brody Morris will officiate.
