Stewart Cummins

Stewart C. (Stu) Cummins 79 of Neodesha, Kansas passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at his home.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 8, 2018, 2:00 pm at Christ Church in Neodesha, Kansas, with Pastor Maureen Olson officiating.
Stewart C. Cummins was born January 17, 1939 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Virgil Maxwell and Velma Louise (Stewart) Cummins. Stu attended Irving Elementary and Horace Mann Junior High School. He graduated from Wichita North High School in 1957. Stewart was united in marriage with Nancy McClelland on January 17, 1959 and they made their home Leon, Kansas.
Stu worked for Utility Contractors in Wichita and did miles of underground utility work. In 1983 Stu, Nancy and their youngest son Loren moved to Neodesha. Stu went to work for WW Wilson Construction for two years before going to work for the City Of Neodesha in 1987 as a heavy equipment operator, foreman of the Street Department and Inspector for the city's new Water Plant construction project. Stu worked for the City of Neodesha for 14 years before retiring in 2001.
Stu was Vice President of Clan Stewart Society of America and traveled to many Scottish games and gatherings across the United States. In his retirement he worked in his wood shop where he made children's rocking chairs, bird houses and many other toys. Stu was a Kansas Master Angler and had caught the largest bass in Wilson County. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and truly enjoyed the great outdoors. Stu worked with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as district commissioner and spent many weekends camping locally and at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Stu umpired Little League and American Legion Baseball for the Neodesha Recreation Department and was a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association, umpiring high school baseball.
Stu is survived by his beloved wife Nancy of the home; two sons; Phillip Cummins and wife Beth of Clearwater, Kansas and Loren Cummins and wife Karen of Nixa, Missouri; three daughters; Beth White and husband Mark of Wichita, Kansas, Sara Puetz and husband Mitch of Andale, Kansas and April Booth and husband Jeffery of Neodesha, Kansas; one brother Wes Cummins and wife Joyce of Boise, Idaho and two sisters; Mona Mozingo and husband Ron of Winfield, Kansas and Beverly Green and husband Bob of North Omaha, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Stu is preceded in death by his parents, one great-granddaughter and his in-laws, Phillip and Mary Ellen McClelland. Memorials can be sent in Stu's name to the Ronald McDonald House in Joplin, Missouri. On-line condolences can be left for the family at www.loranfawcettfuneralhome.com
