12/25/1943 – 4/19/2023
On April 19th, 2023, Sharon Jackson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away at the age of 79 years. Sharon was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 25th, 1943. She was the 2nd of 4 children born to Harry O. and Nadine Ferguson.
Sharon met the love of her life, Jimmy Jackson, while working for her father at the Safeway Grocery store in Wichita. They were united in marriage on July 27th, 1963. In early 1967, Sharon joined Jim in Fort Wainwright (Fairbanks, Alaska) where he served in the Headquarters Company of the US Army. Upon discharge, they returned to Wichita where they started their family in 1969 with their son Mike. They welcomed home their 2nd child Michelle in 1972 and their 3rd child Marlo in 1978. In 1982, Jim’s job moved the family to Neodesha, KS where they remained for the rest of her life.
Sharon had the most infectious laugh; she was full of life and had the biggest heart. She loved spending time with her family whether it was playing cards, drinking coffee, chatting at the kitchen table, painting rocks with the grandkids, or bird and squirrel watching on the back deck, she was always up for a good time. Sharon loved to decorate for every holiday, she INSISTED that every Christmas decoration be put in its place every year, against the wishes of her husband who was “allergic” to Christmas decor.
Sharon was a fearless Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and a soccer coach extraordinaire. She was an active member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Wichita and the United Methodist Church of Neodesha. Sharon loved to spend time with the sisters of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and PEO Chapter T. If she wasn’t at home, you could find her with friends at the Senior Center, or out at a local restaurant having dinner with friends.
Sharon is survived by her husband, James L. Jackson, and their three children: Michael (Angela) Jackson of Mesa, Arizona, Michelle Hon (Tony Stokley) of Dangerfield, Texas, and Marlo Jackson of Topeka, Kansas. Sharon has 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren that she loved with all her heart, Tyler, Levi, Mallory, Julianna, Miles, Harper, Tytan, Storie and Kingstyn. She is also survived by her 3 siblings, Larry (DeeDee) Ferguson, Vicki Allen and Pam (Darren) Bridges.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Neodesha United Methodist Church in her memory. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Loran Fawcett Chapel and the family will greet friends at Loran Fawcett Chapel on Friday, April 28th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Sharon's life will be held at the Neodesha United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 29th at 10:00 am.
