Ross W. May, 81, of Neodesha, KS passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at the Wilson Medical Center surrounded by his family. Ross lived a fun, memorable life with a lot of family and friends. A memorial service will be held on June 10, 2022, at 1:00 pm at the First Christian Church in Neodesha.
Ross was born on October 3, 1940, to Daniel and Alberta May in Neodesha, KS. He lived in Neodesha and attended Neodesha High School. In 1985, Ross joined the Navy. After boot camp, he returned to Neodesha and married the love of his life, Alice Perry, on October 18, 1959. Ross and Alice welcomed their first child, Cynthia, in 1962 and in 1973, they had their son Brett. Ross continued to serve in the Navy for 22 years and did 3 tours in Vietnam. While in the Navy, he was stationed in several different locations and in Sigonella, Sicily before retiring in 1979. After traveling with the Navy for several years, Ross and Alice decided to return to their hometown, Neodesha. Once they were settled in, Ross was employed by KDOT and after 6 years, he retired. Ross kept himself busy by being an EMT, along with owning a gas station, where he also had a motor rewinding company and a carwash. Ross then started a hot-shot trucking company, where he delivered Cobalt Boats before finally deciding that it was time to slow down, stay around home, and spend time with his kids and grandkids.
Ross loved to stay busy. He also enjoyed watching old westerns, doing leather work and spending time with his family.
Ross is survived by his wife, Alice May, at their home. 2 children, Cynthia Renfro of Neodesha, KS; Brett (Patricia) May of Independence, KS. 2 brothers, Danny (Mickey) May of Virginia Beach, VA; Timmy (Christy) Tincknell of Dallas, TX. 3 sisters, Dianne (Chuck) Armstrong of Urda, UT; Sandra (Dick) Haines of Palm Cost, FL; Vicky Carra and husband Doug of Villa Ridge, MO. 6 grandchildren, Kristin Dixon of Independence, KS; Audra Dixon, Courtney Dixon, Jessica Williams and Makayla May of Neodesha, KS; Lacey Ratzlaff of Fredonia, KS. 18 great-grandchildren. 3 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Ross was preceded in death by his father, Daniel May; his mother, Alberta Tincknell; and stepfather, Ernest Tincknell.
