Robert F. Porter

Robert F. Porter, 93, Neodesha, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at home. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Robert was born January 9, 1931 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Myrle and Doris (Opdyke) Porter. At a young age the family moved to Neodesha, Kansas where Robert attended Neodesha Schools prior to enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 17. Following his first enlistment in the Navy Robert returned home to Neodesha to finish his high school education receiving his diploma. After finishing his education Robert reenlisted in the Navy serving from 1948-1969. Following his retirement from the Navy Robert then began his career with the Union Pacific Railroad where he was employed from 1969-2000. After his second retirement Robert enjoyed spending time working on his property in Neodesha and fishing. Robert was a life member of the Neodesha, Kansas V.F.W post #5962 and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. On June 7, 2024 Robert was inducted to the Kansas State Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall of Fame. Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 41 year’s Margie, one daughter JoAnn Atwell, one son in law Dick Hurst. Those left to cherish his memory include four daughters, Debi (Leon) Reedy, Neodesha, KS; Miki Hurst, Neodesha, KS; Carolyn Bowman, Neodesha, KS: Lucy (Maggie) Wooten, Canton, IL; five grandchildren Travis, Brian, Rick, Jason and Crystal.
