P. Jared Pond of Pittsburg Ks. passed away Friday, February 20th, 2015 in Joplin Mo. at Mercy Hospital. He was 70 years young.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, March 3rd at 2:00pm at the Neodesha Cemetery with the Reverend Kenny Richards officiating.
P. Jared Pond was born August 12, 1944 in Opp, Alabama, the son of Paul R. and Jonnie A. (Deal) Pond.
Jared attended his first two years of school in Fredonia, Ks but the remainder of his schooling was completed in Neodesha, Ks where he graduated in 1962. After living in Neodesha for 12 years, Jared began his educational ventures obtaining multiple degrees including certification as a Respiratory Therapist and a graduate degree in education from Pittsburg State University.
As a passionate educator and coach, Jared taught at Erie High School and then Prairie View High School.
Jared was a long time Softball, Baseball, umpire and Basketball Referee in this area for 44 years. He was a member of the USSSA, ASA, and the NCAA Softball Umpires ASSN. and a member of the KSHSAA and the UGA umpires Assn. Hunting, fishing and spending time with his loving family was a passion of Jared's.
Jared is survived by two sons, Jared J. Pond and wife Paula of Tulsa, Okla.; Jeremy Pond of Erie, Ks and one daughter Jessica Homolka and husband Josh of Lawrence, Ks; one brother Micheal ( Mickey)Pond of Independence, Ks; and one grandson Ryker Homolka.
He proceeded in death by his parents.
