Oscar Bowman Oscar Bowman, a longtime resident of Neodesha, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Sequoyah Pointe Living Center in Owasso, OK. He was 86. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the Neodesha United Methodist Church under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Rev. Kris Brinlee will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to view and register. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church. The son of William and Mary Belle Salley Bowman, he was born October 30, 1922, in Coffeyville, KS. He graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville in 1941. Mr. Bowman served in the US Army during WWII from 1943-46, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. While in the service, he served in the Pacific Theater and received a bronze star. On June 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Buell Rae Taylor in Coffeyville. She survives in Owasso. He worked for Vandaveers Clothing in Bartlesville for several years, the Standard Oil Refinery in Neodesha and later owned and operated a filling station at 10th and Main in Neodesha. He also worked for the Neodesha Co-op for a number of years and was a commissioner for Rural Water District 12 Montgomery County. Oscar was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Men, a lifetime member of VFW Post 5962, the Neodesha Roundup Club, a member of Harmony Lodge 94 A.F. amp; A.M., a member of the Independence Shrine Club, the Consistory of Fort Scott, KS, and a member of the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg, KS. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Jenny Bowman and Dora Bowman, both of South Coffeyville, OK, Doris Lowery of Coffeyville; one brother, Floyd Bowman of South Coffeyville, OK; two granddaughters, Terri Hunter and her husband Allen of Owasso, OK, and Kristen Wooden and her husband David of Skiatook, OK; one great-granddaughter and three great-grandsons. He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Melinda; four infant children; and three brothers, Arthur, Lloyd and William. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be left at the funeral home.
