Neil Keith Gildart, 73, of rural Thayer, Kansas passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 at AMG Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Thayer Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Loran Fawcett Chapel, Neodesha, Kansas.
Neil Keith Gildart was born January 12, 1944 to Charley F. and Sibyl (Jones) Gildart at the family home. He was the youngest of twelve children. Neil attended school in Thayer, Kansas and graduated from Thayer High School in 1962. Neil was united in marriage to Billie Rae (Houston) on May 31, 1969. Billie Rae preceded Neil in death on October 22, 2015. Neil served in The Army National Guard for seven years and worked for Central States Water Proofing for eight years. He was a welder, the foreman, and then manager at Imco Foundry and MFG Co. He then went to Acme Foundry in 1985 as a supervisor and was there 10 years and later worked for Young's Welding in Chanute, Kansas. Upon retirement he went to work on the family farm full time with his brother and daughter-in-law, Tara. Neil was always proud of his family and his heritage. He loved building things with his hands, hunting, fishing, and working on his family farm where he lived for 73 years. Most of all Neil loved spending time with his loving family. His grandchildren were his life. He was always at their sporting events cheering them on.
Neil is survived by one son, Brian Gildart and wife, Tara, of rural Thayer, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Taybree Gildart, Bryson Gildart, and Brogan Gildart of Thayer, Kansas; one brother, Dale Gildart of Thayer, Kansas; and three sisters, Norma Stel, Lena Mae Pippin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Francis R. Wedan of Reo Rancho, New Mexico.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Billie Rae; one grandchild, Tanner Gildart; and three brothers, Paul, Ralph, and Roy Gildart; and four sisters, Doris, Reve, Nelda, and Erma.
A memorial has been established in Neil's name to the American Lung Association and the grandchildren's college fund and can be left with Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha, Kansas. Online condolences can be left to the family by going to www.loranfawcettchapel.com
