MELVIN A. BUD BOWERS Melvin A. Bud Bowers, age 80, of Webb City, Missouri formerly of Neodesha, Kansas passed away at 5:45 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 after a long illness. Mr. Bowers was born September 9, 1921 in Mound Valley, Kansas to Smith A. and Rosa Lee Robinson Bowers. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1941. Melvin married Betty Jean Fenner in 1941. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. Escort Guard during WWII. He served in occupied Japan and was also stationed in the Phillipines. Bud retired after 21 years as a lab technician at American Oil Refinery. They moved to Shell Knob, Missouri where he and his wife, Betty developed the Sans Souci sub
ision and Mr. Bamp;s Mini Mart. Melvin was a member of the United Methodist Church of Webb City, Missouri and a former member of the First Christian Church of Neodesha, Kansas. Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Fenner of Webb City, Missouri; two daughters, Sharyn Thompson of Overland Park, Kansas and Linda Golay and son-in-law, Pat Golay of Carthage, Missouri; 4 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and one sister, Rosemary Gilliland of Independence, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters. Visitation hours for Mr. Bowers will be Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home, Neodesha, Kansas. Graveside services for Melvin A. Bud Bowers will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at the Neodesha City Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Seigel of the First Baptist Church of Neosho, Missouri will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army, Fort Riley, Kansas. The family has suggested a memorial to the National Health Care, Joplin, Missouri.
