ELVERN G. SCHOONOVER Melvern G. Schoonover, age 69, of Neodesha, Kansas died Saturday, April 27, 2002 at the Wilson County Hospital. The son of John and Erma Hallbauer Schoonover, was born April 14, 1933 in Neodesha, Kansas. Melvern married Betty Arnold and they would later
orce. On November 7, 1968 He married Bernadette Bailly in Miami, Oklahoma. Melvern built two houses in Neodesha, Kansas where he resided with his beloved family and bride. Mr. Schoonover was a welder and brakeman for Berwind Railway, retiring on May 5, 1995. Melvern also worked for Imco as a welder and forklift operator for ten years and was a softball and baseball coach for his children. He served as President of the A H Fair and a member of the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene. Melvern loved gardening, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Erma Schoonover, brother Loren Schoonover, and sisters Barbara Craig Reynolds, and Lorene McKenzie. Survivors include his wife Bernadette of the home, three daughters Diana Drake of Riverton, Kansas; Kimberly Schell of Independence, Kansas and Amanda Daniels of Neodesha, Kansas; three sons Gary Schoonover of Wichita, Kansas, William Schoonover of Neodesha, Kansas and Christopher Schoonover of Neodesha, Kansas; five sisters Betty Harshman of Altoona, Kansas, Arlene Busick of Parsons, Kansas, Mary Ann Dannels of Altoona, Kansas, Theta Devoe of Fredonia, Kansas and Sheila Kaufman of Neodesha, Kansas; two brothers Carl Schoonover of Chanute, Kansas and Duane Schoonover of Braman, Oklahoma, Grandchildren Casey, Dustin and Summer Drake, Geoffrey and Julie Schoonover, Tabatha, Kayla, and Ashley Schoonover, Preston Schoonover and Samantha Busby; great grandchild Kyler Schoonover. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at the Neodesha Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Dale Coble officiating. Burial will follow in the Ross Cemetery under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Visitation hours will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, and Tuesday, April 29, and 30th at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. The family has suggested memorial to the W. A. Rankin Memorial Library and contributions may be left at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home.
