Mavis Louise Hughes, age 81, of Altoona, Kansas died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at her home in Altoona, Kansas.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Neodesha Cemetery with the Pastor Dave Cheshier officiating under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Loran Fawcett Chapel.
The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society of Kansas and contributions may be left at the Loran Fawcett Chapel.
Mavis Louise Hughes was born July 23, 1931 in Wilson County, Kansas to John A. and Ruby Laural Gloyd Waggoner. She attended schools in Altoona, Kansas. Mavis lived in Neodesha, Kansas on and off for 30 years and spent the last 5 in Altoona, Kansas. She was a member of the Nurses Union and volunteered for TriValley in Chanute.
On July 13, 1999 Mavis married David Hughes in Miami, Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband David of the home children Georgette Dixon of Overland Park, Kansas, Sharon Forman of Mims, Florida,
George Busse, Jr. of Arcadia, Kansas, John Busse of Neodesha, Kansas, Dee Kissel of Thayer, Kansas, Timothy Busse of Altoona, Kansas and Thomas Busse of Licking, Missouri 23 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren. Brothers Don Waggoner of Springfield, Missouri and Guy Waggoner of Williard, Missouri sisters Sandy Weaver of Coffeyville, Kansas, Marjorie Gueulette of Springfield, Missouri, Jackie Cooley of Wilburton, Oklahoma, Pat Goll of Bramer, Missouri and Robin Dedrick of Olathe, Kansas and dozens of foster kids.
