Lowell L. Busby Lowell Leon Busby of Altoona, Kansas, died Tuesday, May 02, 2006, at Beverly Health and Rehab in Neodesha, KS. He was 80. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 05, 2006, at the First Baptist Church in Altoona under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastors Monte Stevicks and James Logan will officiate. Interment will be in Altoona Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. The son of Leon Kelly and Blanche M. Haines Busby, he was born October 13, 1925, in Neodesha, Kansas. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1943. He served with the U.S. Army from 1946-48, spending time as part of the occupation force in Japan. On December 24, 1948, he was united in marriage to Bernice Evans in Dewar, Oklahoma. She survives at the home. The couple lived all of their married life in the Altoona area, 32 years of which were spent on the family farm east of Altoona. During that time, he was employed by the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring in 1990. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Bruce Busby of Erie, KS, Brent Busby and wife Gail of Humboldt, KS, Brian Busby of Topeka, KS, and Brett Busby and wife Laura of Chanute, KS; two daughters, Kay Davis and husband Tod of Chanute and Beverly Flessner of Altoona; two sisters, Doris Streets of Altoona and Thelma Henderson of Fredonia, KS; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Altoona and may be left at the funeral home.
