LESTER D. HAWKINS Lester D. Hawkins, 89, of Neodesha passed away Friday morning, May 27, 2005 at the Golden Keys Nursing Home in Neodesha. Lester was born January 13, 1916 in Grenola, Kansas to Harvey and Anna Shull Hawkins. He was raised on the family farm northeast of Grenola and attended country school. Lester married Lorene Wallace on November 03, 1940 in Howard, Kansas. They made their home in Winfield, Kansas for sixty years. He worked in Wichita for Boeing, Beech, and Cessena Aircraft Companies as a sheet metal worker. He also worked for Cessena at Strother Field, Winfield, Kansas. Following his retirement, he did numerous jobs and did yardwork. They moved to Neodesha in 2003 because of failing health and to be near the children. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Winfield and Neodesha. Lester is survived by his wife, Lorene of Neodesha, Kansas; one daughter, Joana White of Thayer, Kansas; two sons, Ed Hawkins of Wasola, Missouri and David Hawkins of Chanute, Kansas; one brother, Charley Hawkins of Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lee and Glenn and one great granddaughter, Keagan White. Cremation will take place under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett of Neodesha. Graveside memorial services at Grenola Cemetery are pending.
