Jon was born August 13, 1957 to Melvin & Phyllis Cunningham of Neodesha, KS. Jon graduated from Neodesha High School in 1975. After graduating High School, Jon became a member of the Neodesha Fire Department and worked as a volunteer firefighter. Jon helped coach little league baseball during his son’s childhood and was a bus driver for the Neodesha School District. During Jon’s off time, he played drums for many bands including Jimmy & The Geezers, Haywire, & Triple Shot just to name a few. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, drag racing his muscle cars, spending time with his family and friends, playing the drums every chance he got, playing with his grandchildren, reading the Bible, remodeling the inside of vehicles, wood working, glass engraving, going to the lake, camping, and cruising the country roads while listening to his favorite music. There wasn’t much that Jon couldn’t do or fix, he was a “Jack of All Trades” and wasn’t afraid to try new things in life.
Jon was a member of The Church of the Ascension (Episcopal Church) in Neodesha, KS where he attended with his mother, Phyllis Cunningham.
Jon is survived by two children, Jon Wayne Cunningham and wife Andrea of Andover, KS and Amy Schafer and husband Clinton of Bel Aire, KS; and two brothers, Stephen Cunningham of Neodesha, KS and Phillip Cunningham and wife Jane of Grove, OK. Jon will be remembered by his family and friends as the talker/storyteller. He never met a stranger in his life and could talk for many hours about drums, music and his life. Jon loved to laugh and crack jokes on everyone he met. Jon will be deeply missed by his family, friends and those who knew him the best.
