JOHN E. MCDONALD John Edward McDonald, 87, of Neodesha, Kansas passed away Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Wilson County Hospital. John was born March 26, 1917 in Neodesha, Kansas to Earl and Ethel J. Fender-McDonald. He was raised and educated in Neodesha. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in Africa, Italy, Southern France, Normandy, Germany and Austria. He helped with the clean up following the holocaust. Following his return from Europe, he married Verna Jean Maloney on April 1, 1949 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death. He worked as a welder for the Sherwood Construction Company for fourteen years, IMCO for 10 years and owned and operated MM Motors in Cherryvale for seven years. He was also the Sexton at the Ross Cemetery for a number of years. He was a life time member of the VFW Post 5962, Neodesha, Kansas. Mr. McDonald is survived by two children, Charlotte Davidson and Lyle McDonald both of Neodesha, Kansas; four brothers, Frank McDonald and Orville McDonald both of Neodesha, Kansas, Louis McDonald and Cecil McDonald both of Larnard, Kansas; two sisters, Mildred Bohannon of Larnard, Kansas and Louise Bowman of Clay Center, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Tara Johnson, Jason McDonald and Matt McDonald all of Neodesha, Kansas, Cheryl Chavez of San Antonio, Texas and Sean Martin; and 9 great grandchildren, Levi Woodworth, Kyle Wagner, Seth and Nicholas Chavez, Heather, Johnathon, Ryelea, Lydia and Brooklinn McDonald. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. Visitation hours for John will be Sunday, October 17, 2004 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel, Neodesha, Kansas. Graveside services for John E. McDonald will be held at 2:00 p.m., October 18, 2004 at the Ross Cemetery, west of Neodesha. Reverend Jim Logan, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church will officiate. The family has suggested memorial contributions for a Swimming Pool Park Bench in his memory. Memorials may be left with the funeral home.
