Joe Altendorf

March 3, 1950 — October 10, 2015

Joe Altendorf passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 10th at Diversicare of Chanute Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. His daughter and sister were at his side.

Joe was born March 3, 1950 at the home of his maternal grandparents Roy and Gertrude Willard in Neodesha, Kansas to James J. and La Vonne Willard Altendorf. His is survived by his mother.

A graduate of Webb City High School, Joe lived most of his life in Joplin and in several communities throughout Southeast Kansas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family members.

He was preceded in death by is father Dr. James J. Altendorf; maternal grandparents Roy and Gertrude Willard; and paternal grandparents James P. and Bessie Altendorf.

Additional survivors include his sons Don A. Baine and wife Rachael of Webb City and James Pete Altendorf of Dallas, Texas; a daughter Dr. Karen Altendorf-Cheville and husband Dr. Alan Cheville of Lewisberg, Pennsylvania; sister Janet K. Myers and husband Doug of Joplin; brother Stan Altendorf and wife Michelle of Oswego, Kansas; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family members and friends including a special cousin Mike Willard.


A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Diversicare of Chanute Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Chanute, Kansas in support of the excellent care he received throughout the past year.
