James Arthur Irvine, 82, passed away March 15, 2016 after a lengthy illness of Alzheimers. He was born January 23, 1934 in the same home where he died, to Louis and Harriet (Highley) Irvine. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1952, met his wife Jeanne (Purkapile) Irvine in 1956, and they were married in the same house on December 13, 1956. He was inducted into the Army in Oct., 1956 and served both in France and Germany until Oct., 1958. He then began work with Halliburton in Perryton, TX, moved to Las Vegas, NV where he worked at the Nevada Test Site in 1966, until 1976 when he began working in Alaska at both Kenai and Prudhoe Bay, retiring in 1986. The family moved back to Neodesha in 1981. He is survived by his wife Jeanne of the home, Michael James Irvine, Neodesha, Terry Lynn Bryant, Independence, Christopher Lee Irvine, Las Vegas, NV and Lisa Kay Kane of Independence, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. His parents and brother George are deceased, one sister Virginia Manning lives in Tampa, FL. After his retirement he enjoyed working on the home place, taking care of his parents and when his health allowed him, to go on mission trips. He attended First Southern Baptist Church of Neodesha. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Loran Fawcett Chapel and graveside services will be conducted by Pastor Dallas Martin on Thursday, March 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Neodesha Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to First Southern Baptist church, Gentiva Hospice or Gideons Bibles and may be left at Loran Fawcett Chapel. The family requests dress casual.
