James Clanton

September 13, 1931 — November 16, 2017

James (Jim) Leon Clanton, 86, of Neodesha, passed away in Neodesha, Kansas. on November 16, 2017. A celebration of James' life will be held at Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha on Monday, November 20th, at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be Sunday, November 19th, at 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with family receiving friends from 4:001 pm to 6:00 pm.

James Leon Clanton was born on September 13, 1931 to Earl and Elsie (Dixon) Clanton in Neodesha, Kansas. James attended the Neodesha school system. James entered the United States Army on September 14, 1948 and was honorably discharged on May 14, 1952. James married Helen on August 23, 1952 in Bentonville, Arkansas. James worked at American Sugar Company in Rocky Ford Colorado for 30 years and retired in 1979. In 1979, James and Helen moved back to Neodesha and began their family. James began working at Berwind Railway Services Company in Neodesha and worked for them for 15 years, retiring again in 1994. James was a longtime member of the VFW and American Legion. James was a big fan of Nascar, and auto racing. James loved to spend his spare time working as a mechanic on race cars, and owned his own race car, Jim also loved to ride motor cycles, James enjoyed playing his guitar with his friends in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Those left to cherish James' memory include; wife, Helen Clanton of Neodesha, KS, son, James Dean Clanton of Neodesha, KS, daughter-in-law, Betty Clanton of La Junta, CO., sisters, Nancy and husband Ray Fairbanks of Neodesha, KS, and grandchildren, Crystal Dawn Clanton, and Kelly Ann Clanton of La Junta, CO. James in preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Elsie Clanton, daughter, Janet Earline Clanton, sister Mary Leatha Stewart, and Deloris St. Clair, and stepmother, Myrtle Clanton. Memorials may be left to Veteran's Hospital of Topeka, Kansas. and Lighthouse Church of Neodesha, Kansas and Neodesha Senior Citizen's Center of Neodesha KS. and may be left at Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha.
