Jackie Whitcomb

Jackie A. Whitcomb Jackie Allan Whitcomb of Fredonia, KS, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his home. He was 72. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel of Neodesha. A committal of ashes will take place at a later date. The son of Allan and Marguerite Hedrick Whitcomb, he was born November 25, 1935, in Muskogee, OK. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1954 and later attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, KS. He joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Iceland and California. Mr. Whitcomb was united in marriage to Joanie Coffman on November 27, 1959, in California. They were later
orced. He married Jane Owen Schroeder on March 17, 2001, in Sonoma County, CA. She survives at the home. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Mr. Whitcomb lived in Marin County, CA, where he was a realtor. He was a member of a number of service clubs while in California and was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Fredonia. Mr. Whitcomb returned to Fredonia in 2001 after retiring. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Jeff Whitcomb of Novato, CA; two daughters, Jackie Fender of Boise, ID, and Jana Whitcomb of Sacramento, CA; one half-brother, Tim Whitcomb, of Temple City, CA; and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Helen. Memorial contributions may be made to Fredonia High School and may be sent to the funeral home at 704 Indiana, Neodesha, KS 66757.
