Irene Clary

IRENE CLARY Irene Clary, 80, resident of Fredonia passed away Thursday, August 30, 2007 at Golden Keys Nursing Home, Neodesha, Kansas. Irene was born March 23, 1927 in Buffalo, Kansas to Roscoe and Phyllis Stewart Gehr. She was raised and educated in Benedict, Kansas graduating from Benedict High School in 1944. Irene married Dwayne Lee Clary on January 11, 1944 in Fredonia. They made their home in Fredonia where Irene worked and managed Dryers Shoe Store for 12 years. She also helped her husband on the farm and was part time matron at the Wilson County Jail. Mr. Clary preceded her in death on July 25, 1980. Irene was a member of the First Christian Church of Fredonia where she cooked for family dinners and functions for many years. For years, Irene was a member of the Rural Home Maker Club. She loved to sew and cook. Irene is survived by five daughters, Sandra Cox of Fredonia, Kansas, Mary Johnson of Copan, Oklahoma, Susan Voorhies of Fredonia, Kansas, Jo Ellen Scouten of Baton Rouge, Louisanna, and Deanna Weller of Neodesha, Kansas; eighteen grandchildren, Jon and Jeff Cox, Laurie Marguna, Gayle Abrams, Justin and James Voorhies, Julie Stone, Jody Morris, Crystal, Blake, Kara Lee Scouten, Mike, Eric, Timothy, Titus, Sarah and Peter Weller; and twenty three great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Patricia Kay Mitchell of Dillyn, Virginia and a sister-in-law, Mary Ambrose of Fredonia, Kansas. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Cremation will take place under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Funeral Home and Crematory, Neodesha, Kansas. A graveside memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 05, 2007 at the Fredonia Cemetery with Reverend Leslie Griffith of the First Church of God, Neodesha officiating.
