Hazel E. Moore Hazel Elizabeth Moore of Neodesha, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation. She was 97. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006, at the First Church of God under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. The Reverend Leslie Griffith will officiate. Interment will be in Neodesha Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. The daughter of Lawrence Asca and Helen Elizabeth Cottle Surmon, she was born October 12, 1908, in Altoona, Kansas, and has lived in Wilson County since that time. She was united in marriage to Billy Newton Newt Moore on April 26, 1930, in Independence, Kansas. He preceded her in death December 17, 1983. Mrs. Moore was employed as a cook at North Lawn Elementary School in Neodesha until her retirement. She helped to establish the school lunch program in Neodesha prior to World War II. She later assisted at the Golden Keys Nursing Home. She was a member of the First Church of God where she served on the Benevolence Committee, the Board of Christian Education as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher and a Vacation Bible School instructor. She was also a member of the Homemakers Extension Unit in Neodesha. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Moore of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Tim, Bill, Larry, Mike, Vance and Vangie: six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Bill Moore; five sisters, Gertie, Ava, Ruby, Goldie and Lucille; and one granddaughter, Karen.
