Grover Cochran Wesley Grover Cochran of Neodesha died Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was 82. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, at Eastgate Chapel with Pastor Jim York officiating. Interment will be in the Neodesha Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The son of James Edgar and Martha Skidmore Cochran, he was born Nov. 10, 1926 in Burlington, KS. He attended country schools south of Independence, east of Wichita and in Chetopa. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1944. He later attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg, graduating with a bachelor of arts degree in 1948. Mr. Cochran was an educator and minister, serving several churches in southeast Kansas. With the exception of one year spent in Chicago, he was a lifelong resident of Kansas. He was a member of Eastgate Chapel. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Martha Gwen Johnson. Survivors include a son, Steven Stevens of Denver, CO; two daughters, Mona Stevens of Canton, GA and Marcia Smith of Junction City, KS; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastgate Childrens Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
