HELEN FAYE BUSSERT Helen Faye Bussert, 101 of Independence, Kansas, formerly of Neodesha and Cherryvale, died Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at Regal Estates in Independence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 11, 2005, in the Neodesha Cemetery under the direction of Penwell Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday morning from 9 a.m.-noon. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The daughter of Daniel Delbert and Ella Maples Fisher, she was born August 18, 1903, near Morehead, Kansas. As a girl, she attended school in Morehead. She married Ray W. Smalley on April 3, 1923, in Neodesha. He preceded her in death March 13, 1962. On December 9, 1964, she married Roy M. Bussert in Neodesha. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Neodesha Book Club. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, June Smalley of Dallas, TX; a step-son, John Bussert and wife Darlene of Independence, KS; a step-daughter, Shirley Adams and husband Bill of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dean, and two sisters, Margaret Adams and Ida May Ringle.
