DORIS VERNIECE WILSON Doris Verniece Wilson, age 92, of Independence, Kansas formerly of Neodesha, Kansas died Monday, May 3, 2004 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Doris was born September 14, 1911 in Neodesha, Kansas to William and Bertha Kinnison Opdyke. Doris grew up in Neodesha, Kansas and attended the Neodesha School System. On August 22, 1949 Doris married Alton Emory Wilson in Independence, Kansas. They made their home in Neodesha, Kansas until later moving to Independence, Kansas. Alton preceded her in death July 11, 1985. Doris worked as a homemaker and several different jobs around the area including working as a waitress at the Neodesha Truck Stop. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Independence, Kansas. Survivors include one son Bob Porter of Neodesha, Kansas; one sister Thelma Milbern of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at the Neodesha Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Rice of the Church of the Brethren in Independence, Kansas officiating under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. Friends may sign the register book from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home. The family has suggested memorials to the Church of the Brethren and contributions may be left at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home.
