DeWayne Prosser, age 68, of Neodesha, Kansas peacefully passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Via Christi St. Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He is "Finally" at rest after numerous health battles.
Celebration of his life here and New Life in Heaven will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Bible Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Chapel.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at the Loran Fawcett Chapel and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Church with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
DeWayne Prosser was born June 7, 1948 to Wayne E. and Virginia (Reynolds) Prosser. "On December 12, 1965 at the age of 17, DeWayne accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. "He grew up in Neodesha and graduated from the Neodesha High School in 1966. DeWayne then attended and graduated from the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri in 1970.
On August 2, 1969 DeWayne married Elaine McGhee at the Temple Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. Following college DeWayne was an associate pastor for a couple years before becoming a Pastor. DeWayne pastored at Osage City and Coffeyville and started churches in Columbus and Chetopa prior to pastoring the Bible Baptist Church in Neodesha, Kansas from 1989 until retiring in 2010. DeWayne spent the past six years pastoring the Bible Baptist Church in Yates Center, Kansas.
DeWayne served as a Neodesha City Commissioner, Wilson County Commissioner and was Mayor of Neodesha, Kansas. DeWayne also served as Treasurer of the Neodesha Alumni Association for 22 years. He and Elaine were foster parents for eleven years from 1998 until 2009. He loved fishing, hunting, shooting squirrels, feeding hummingbirds, coin and stamp collecting, listening to music and penny stock trading.
Survivors include his wife Elaine of the home; three children Kelly Johnson and husband Brent of Lynchburg, VA, Chad Prosser and wife Suzannah of Waxhaw, NC, Jeremy Prosser and wife Jacqueline of Sevierville, TN; father Wayne E. Prosser of Kansas Veterans' Home in Winfield, KS; four grandchildren Haylie & Dayna Johnson, Jacob Prosser and Elijah Prosser; one step-grandchild Megan Smolich; and four "adopted" grandchildren Josiah, Benjamin, Cody and Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Prosser and one brother Gregory Prosser.
The family has suggested memorials to the Bible Baptist Church in Yates Center, Kansas and contributions may be left at the Loran Fawcett Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.loranfawcettchapel.com.
