Dennis D. Porter Dennis Duane Porter of Wichita, KS, formerly of Neodesha and Fredonia, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. He was 69. Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Neodesha Cemetery. Rev. Dave Cheshier will officiate. Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The US Naval Reserve will provide military honors at the graveside. The son of Harold and Mildred Ward Porter, he was born March 26, 1940, in Neodesha, KS. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1958. He attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg and Baker University in Baldwin before graduating in 1965 from Gradual College in St. Louis, MO, as a lab technician. He served in the US Navy from 1962-64 and received an honorable discharge. Mr. Porter was a lifetime member of the VFW. On May 26, 1966, Dennis was united in marriage to Christine Secrest in Neodesha. She survives at the home. He was a laboratory technician and was the administrator of the laboratory and x-ray departments at St. Margarets Mercy Hospital in Fredonia, KS, for 17 years. He relocated to Lindsborg, KS, where he was also a lab technician until he retired in 1998. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Eric Porter and his wife Alanna of Wichita; one daughter, Reynel Hettich and her husband Allen of Gilbert, AZ; and four grandchildren, Jack and Hunter Hettich and Evan and Megan Porter. Memorial contributions may be made to the NHS Alumni Scholarship Fund dedicated to baseball.
