Charles M. Barney, Jr., 86, of Neodesha died Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Vintage Park Assisted Living in Neodesha.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Neodesha with Reverend Frank Morgan officiating. Interment will follow at the Neodesha Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the United Methodist Church. Friends can also sign the register book online or leave a message for the family at www.loranfawcettfuneralhome.com.
The family has suggested memorials to the Vintage Park Assisted Living and these remembrances may be left with Loran Fawcett Funeral Home of Neodesha.
Charles was born April 24, 1926 in Buffville, Kansas to Charles M. Barney, Sr. and Verbal Wilkes Barney. He graduated from Neodesha High School in 1944. He married L. Yvonne Martinson on June 21, 1944 at Yates Center, Kansas.
He enlisted in the United States Army Airforce cadet training in December of 1943. He was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant in July of 1946. He served with the 891st Engineer Squadron in Germany.
He worked as a welder and a certified instructor for American Standard Oil Company in Neodesha for 22 years, MEC for several years and then retired from IMCO in 1988.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3018 of Fredonia.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Pendleton and husband Terry of Neodesha, Kansas and Lisa Schwob and husband David of Pittsburg, Kansas five grandchildren fifteen greatgrandchildren and one greatgreatgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents his wife two sisters daughter, Linda son, Michael Dean one granddaughter, Missy and one greatgrandson, Brock.
Arrangements are under the care of Loran Fawcett Funeral Home of Neodesha, Kansas.
