Betty Whitaker

Betty R. Whitaker Betty R. Whitaker, of Fredonia, KS, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, in Blue Rapids, KS. She was 84. Cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday May 20, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Fredonia, KS. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by PenwellGabel Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha. The daughter of Ira C. and Beatrice Harbour McNeal, she was born September 6, 1925, in Waco, NE. She later moved to Lafontaine, KS where she graduated from high school. She was united in marriage to Floyd D. Whitaker on April 19, 1947. They lived in Fall River and Neodesha prior to his death in 2000. Mrs. Whitaker was a homemaker and was a former member of the United Methodist Church in Neodesha and a current member of the United Methodist Church in Fredonia. Survivors include two sons, the Reverend Bob Whitaker of Waterville, KS, and Bill Whitaker of Fredonia, KS two daughters, Sue Hime and Doe Komen, both of Wichita, KS three sisters, Norma Taylor of Langley, WA, Lois Whitaker of Mound Valley, KS, and Anna Modesitt of Dennis, KS 12 grandchildren and 26 greatgrandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Memorial contributions may be made to Fredonia United Methodist Church.
