Anne Marie Jaynes Anne Marie Jaynes of Thayer, KS, died Friday morning at the Golden Keys Nursing Home in Neodesha. She was 70. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with inurnment in Star Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2008, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. The daughter of Joseph and Rose D. Dickman Diekhans, she was born July 5, 1937, in Fort Benton, Montana. She graduated from Great Falls High School in Great Falls, Montana, in 1955. She later attended Carroll College in Helena, MT, and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Mrs. Jaynes received her Masters of Library Science degree from the University of Washington in 1963. Mrs. Jaynes was employed by special services for the US Army and was assigned to a hospital library on a military base in Germany. There she met her future husband, Duane Jaynes while he was stationed there with the US Army. On September 18, 1965, the couple was united in marriage in Nelligen, Germany. Upon returning to the United States, the couple lived at a number of military posts where Mr. Jaynes was stationed. Upon Mr. Jaynes retirement from the Army, the couple made their home in rural Thayer, KS. Mrs. Jaynes was employed as Director of Library Services for the City of Independence Public Library for 18 years. She retired in 2001. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Neodesha, the Friends of the Library in Independence and served on the Board of Directors of the Friday Reading Club of the Thayer Library. Survivors include her husband, Duane, of the home; one son, Brian Jaynes of Thayer, KS; one daughter, Kathy Heater of the home; three brothers, Father Joseph Diekhans of Chester, MT; and John and Bernard Diekhans, both of Fort Benton, MT; two sisters, Celeste Goldhan of Fort Benton, MT, and Rosita Moe of Hammond, MT; three grandchildren and one step-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Library in Independence, KS, or to the Thayer Library and may be left at the funeral home.
